Adult Orthodontics in Gurgaon
Being an adult does not by itself rule out orthodontic treatment. The health of your teeth and gums, previous dental work and the way your teeth meet matter to the plan. Treatment may address crowding or bite problems, or help position teeth for other planned dental care. The British Orthodontic Society explains adult orthodontics.
For adult orthodontics in Gurgaon, Dr Divya Marwaha can discuss these goals at Marwaha Dental Clinic in DLF Phase 2, Gurugram. The established clinic has served patients since 2004. An assessment helps connect the change you want with your current dental health and the treatment options for your bite.
Choosing the best dentist for braces in Gurgaon as an adult
Adult planning should take existing fillings, crowns and other dental work into account, as well as the teeth you want to move. A useful assessment explains any dental care needed first, how the proposed movement fits your bite and whether it supports other planned dental treatment.
Dr Divya Marwaha is MDC’s founder, an experienced dental surgeon and BDS Gold Medalist, with advanced training at AIIMS, New Delhi. Marwaha Dental Clinic is trusted by many happy patients and families who continue to choose Dr Divya for their dental care, including patients returning for 10–15 years. You can arrange a general orthodontic assessment to discuss your goals and existing dental concerns.
Dental health and previous treatment come into the plan
Active tooth decay and gum problems should be addressed before orthodontic tooth movement begins. Having these problems does not mean that future orthodontic care is permanently ruled out: the preparation and suitability need individual assessment. Previous restorations—dental work such as fillings or crowns—may also change the plan. BOS adult-treatment guidance.
Tell the treating clinician about previous dental injuries, especially injuries to front teeth. They matter to the risk assessment before movement. Continue routine dental care alongside orthodontic visits. BOS information on dental injuries and continuing care.
Orthodontic movement can shorten tooth roots, called root resorption. This is usually limited but can occasionally be substantial. Your dental history and individual risks need discussion as part of deciding on care. BOS root-shortening information.
Tooth positioning can support other dental care
Adult orthodontics can help position teeth before planned restorative treatment, such as dental work to restore or replace teeth. Moving teeth may help close or create the spaces needed for that plan. The intended tooth movement and the restorative work should be considered together; orthodontics is a possible supporting step rather than a guarantee of a particular restoration outcome. BOS guidance on reasons for adult treatment.
Braces, aligners and combined treatment are different decisions
Appliance selection depends on the bite problem, your goals and clinical assessment. Fixed braces remain attached to teeth during treatment. Clear aligners can be removed for meals and cleaning; that format difference alone does not make either approach faster, safer or suitable for every case. Explore the braces and orthodontics overview and clear-aligner guide. AAO appliance-choice guidance.
Some adult problems involving jaw size or position need orthodontic treatment combined with jaw surgery because braces alone cannot correct them. Surgery is not needed for every jaw mismatch; the assessment determines whether combined care needs consideration. BOS adult jaw-treatment guidance.
Space may be created by removing selected teeth or reducing a small amount of enamel between teeth, called interproximal reduction. Neither is automatic. Widening the dental arch is another possible space-management approach in selected plans; the choice depends on the individual bite. BOS adult space-planning guidance and BOS guidance on space-management options.
If fixed braces are chosen for adult treatment
Fixed braces use brackets—small fittings attached to teeth—and a connecting wire to transmit forces that move the teeth. Before fitting, the teeth and bite are assessed; conditions such as cavities may need treatment first, with preparation tailored to you. Scheduled monitoring and adjustments continue at intervals set for the individual plan. The conventional metal-braces guide explains one fixed option. AAO fixed-brace guidance.
With fixed braces, clean around brackets and between teeth to control plaque, the build-up on teeth. Hard or sticky foods can damage the appliance, so follow the treating team’s food and cleaning instructions. Poor cleaning can be associated with permanent white or brown marks, gum swelling and lasting gum damage. These are possible risks; new tooth marks or gum problems need dental assessment rather than a diagnosis from appearance alone. Routine dental care continues alongside brace adjustments. AAO appliance-care guidance and BOS dental-risk information.
Teeth may be sore for several days after fixed braces are fitted or adjusted. A rubbing bracket or wire may need temporary orthodontic wax, a protective covering over the rubbing part. Very painful teeth warrant contact with the treating orthodontist; severe or persistent pain should not be ignored. Contact the treating team about a broken bracket or wire. BOS fixed-brace discomfort guidance and AAO breakage advice.
Appliance problems and symptoms needing urgent care
During adult orthodontic treatment, contact the treating orthodontist about a broken or loose appliance. If you use aligners, contact the team when a tray is lost, cracked, distorted or no longer fits. Follow their instructions for the device you use; most appliance problems are not medical emergencies.
Heavy uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe pain with facial swelling or fever needs urgent medical or dental care. Use the appropriate local urgent-care service for these symptoms. AAO guidance distinguishes appliance problems from urgent symptoms.
Retainers are part of the adult treatment plan
After active tooth movement, retainers are needed to help hold the teeth in position. The treating clinician selects the type and wear plan individually. Teeth can move back without appropriate retention; retainers reduce this risk while some changes remain possible over time. AAO retention guidance and BOS information on relapse.

These factors shape preparation and options rather than automatically ruling out future orthodontic care. BOS adult dental-health guidance.
Yes, in selected adult plans. Orthodontic treatment can help position teeth and close or create spaces for planned dental work to restore or replace teeth. The movement and restorative treatment need to be planned together; the result depends on the individual case. BOS adult-treatment guidance.
No. Some adult jaw size or position problems require orthodontics combined with surgery, but not every jaw mismatch does. Removing selected teeth, widening the dental arch or reducing a small amount of enamel between teeth are possible space-management choices; none is automatic for every adult. The bite and treatment goals guide these decisions. BOS adult-planning guidance and BOS space-management guidance.
Heavy uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or severe pain with facial swelling or fever needs urgent medical or dental care through an appropriate local service. AAO orthodontic-emergency guidance.
