Common Dental Emergencies We Can Assess
- Severe toothache or throbbing pain that is not improving; this may require root canal treatment after assessment
- A tooth that has been chipped, broken, or knocked loose
- A tooth that has been completely knocked out - call immediately, store the tooth in milk or saliva, and come in as soon as possible
- Lost or broken crown, bridge, or filling causing pain or sensitivity
- A swelling on the gum or jaw that is painful but not causing breathing difficulty
- Sharp or broken dental appliance causing injury to soft tissue
- Broken, impacted, or infected tooth situations that may need oral surgery assessment
What to Do If a Tooth Is Knocked Out
- Handle the tooth by the crown, the white biting part - do not touch the root
- If dirty, gently rinse under cold water for a few seconds - do not scrub
- If possible, try to place the tooth back in its socket gently and hold it in place by biting softly on a clean cloth
- If you cannot replace it, keep it moist in milk, saline, or the patient's own saliva held in the cheek - not in plain water
- Call Marwaha Dental Clinic immediately and come in as soon as possible
- Time is critical - re-implantation outcomes are generally better when treated quickly, though success varies by case
